Kayaking
Explore Highland run a wide range of kayak activities throughout the year. A taste of some of the activities on offer is shown in the tables below. To ensure both your safety and the quality of personal feedback throughout, we limit the group size for each instructor to a maximum of six paddlers (a maximum of four paddlers in advanced waters).

Introduction WW Kayaking |
1 day |
A one day introduction to river running. Your day starts off learning about the kayak and working through some basic safety information and strokes on flat water. Once mastered in the afternoon you will progress to a very gentle river trip where you will apply those skills and have a splash on the water. |
Intermediate WW Kayaking |
2 days |
Taking it to the next level, this course will help consolidate and apply your knowledge to allow you to run rivers smarter, using river features and technique to take you where you want to go. Working on Grade 2/3 rivers this course will make you skills sharper and your river reading ability much clearer. |
Advanced WW Kayaking |
2 days |
Those of you used to running Grade 3 rivers in a kayak, this course is for you! Helping you use brain over brawn, you will learn to plan every stroke in advance. The working a river will be yours. Please Note: This course is suitable for those who have a solid roll. |
Introduction to Play Boating |

Play Boating is an exciting skill and literally is playing with the water and its natural force. From the basics of river surfing and controlling your kayak, this introduction course will move you from two dimensional paddling and start you thinking and working in the third dimension - vertically! You will be playing both on flat water and on small river features. Please Note: This course is suitable for those who have a solid roll. |
Improver Play Boating |

For the Improver Play boater, we can help build on your current skills and knowledge helping you achieve stalls, cart wheels, pop outs and more. Improver Play boating will take place on small and medium river features. Where appropriate video may be used to assist your learning. Please Note: This course is suitable for those who have a solid roll. |
BCU 3* Inland Kayak Training/Assessment |
2 days |
This is a discipline specific award. The three star paddler will be a competent performer in sheltered to moderate water environments and have the ability to paddle unsupervised, with similar standard paddlers on sheltered water (does not include BCU certificate fee). |
Other BCU Inland Kayaking performance training and assessments awards can be arranged on request. |

Scotland has the best variety of rivers, certainly in the UK making it the perfect holiday destination for all kayakers. With perfect flows and gentle rapids for beginners, to full on white water for the more advanced paddler. We even have some fantastic dam release rivers which guarantee great water.
