Kids Paddling Workshops

Explore Highland run a number of kids paddling workshops during the local school holidays.

These workshops aim to introduce young paddlers to various paddle crafts, learn new skills and most definitely have lots of fun. Children should be between 10-16 years old and who are water confident (able to swim 25m in a swimming pool plus tread water for 1 minute).

  • Adult & Child Kayaking Adventure – Friday 1st April 2016, 12.45-1700

Kids Paddling Workshops Offer

  • Introduction to a variety of crafts including open canoes, sit on kayaks and stand up paddleboards
  • Water safety skills for when paddling on the canal
  • Introduction to the basic paddling strokes for craft
  • Safe practice of capsizing and self rescuing skills
  • Paddling games, balance skills, challenges plus lots of fun

Group size will be a maximum of six to eight depending on craft.

  • Juice and biscuits for half time break

We ask that all parent ensure their child arrives 5-10 mins before session, already dressed for paddling (swimwear, wetsuit, fleece top etc). At drop off, all parents/guardians are asked to complete our client participation form to include a mobile contact number.

What the children need to wear;

  • Swimwear, with preferably a shorty or full wetsuit
  • Pair of wetsuit booties/shoes or old trainers for paddling/swimming in
  • Big towel for drying off/changing under
  • A change of clothes and dry footwear
  • Snack or energy bar for half time
