River Spey Service

Explore Highland offers planned, bespoke and an emergency River Spey canoe shuttle services for those taking on one of the UK’s best canoe trips.

Based out of Inverness we offer a cost effective shuttle services for canoe and kayak groups of any size.

Planned & Bespoke Shuttle Service

We normally meet most self guided groups (who have their own kit) by the old Spey Bay Hotel, where paddlers (who gain permission) can leave their vehicles during their canoe expedition. By running the shuttle at the start of the canoe expedition, the group then don’t have to rush to finish as their vehicles are already at the finish point.

For groups with suitable river canoeing experience, we offer open canoe hire, touring kayak hire & shuttle services. The most cost effective shuttle service is to meet at our Inverness base where we can offer refreshments and shelter when packing your kit into your hired drybags and barrels. From here after loading up our minibus, we can shuttle you to your chosen start/drop off point. We then collect you from the river at you planned finish point (or another egress point) at the agreed collection/uplift time returning your to our Inverness base.

We are also happy to meet hire & shuttle clients at Kincraig (kit drop off service) with full shuttle being completed on the last day as prebook, or vice versa. This option requires more planning to ensure you have ordered everything you require.

See our location page for directions and other facilities available.

We are able to drop off/collect from various locations on the River Spey including Newtownmore, Kingussie, Loch Inch/Kincraig, Aviemore, Boat of Garten, Grantown on Spey, Aberlour, Fochabers and Spey Bay.

Additional Support

We strongly suggest the group (especially group leader) has read Pesda Press’s River Spey Canoe Guidebook written by Nancy Chambers. This gives lots of advice and suggestions when planning your canoe adventure and will also answer lots of the question you may have. We can include a copy in your booking for only £13.00 (including UK P&P)

Should you require, we can assist groups of paddlers travelling up to the Highlands and Moray by public transport with the following;

  • Transport from local hotel or B&B collection
  • Transport to local superstore for food supplies
  • Transport to local outdoor store for extra clothing or stove fuel

PLEASE NOTE: These additional support services need to be requested at the time of booking the shuttle service so we can allocate appropriate time for drive & minibus.

Emergency Shuttle Uplift

Should the weather turn for the worst or one or all of the group decides not continue the full length of the River Spey, we are normally able to respond swiftly and get your crafts and kit off the river bank and back to either Kincraig or Spey Bay.
